What do you mean by a natural satellite?

Some heavenly bodies are revolving around some planets in a specific path, these are called natural satellite. Ex.- Moon for Earth.

Can you hear any sound on the moon? Why?

No, we cannot hear any sound on the moon.
Because there is no atmosphere and water present in Moon 's surface. As a result sound cannot travel and even, we cannot hear our own voice.

Why there are no atmosphere on the Moon?

As the gravity of the Moon is very less. The moon's Gravity is one sixth 1/6 of Earth’s gravity. That's why the moon is unable to bound a layer of atmosphere around its surface.

Why is there no life on the Moon?

The temperature on the Moon surface varies widely. Day temperature achieve 100°c while night temperature reaches 150° c. That's why we are unable to survive on the Moon's surface.

Describe the various phases of the moon.

The changing shapes of the moon day by day are called the phases of the moon. Some shapes are described below -

New Moon: In this phase, no part of the moon is clearly visible.
Crescent Moon : In this phase, only 14 th of the Moon is visible.
Half Moon : When 12 Part of the Moon is visible
Gibbous Moon : When 34 Part of the Moon is visible
Full Moon : When the total part of the Moon is visible.

What do you mean by an eclipse?

We know that the Earth revolves around the sun and the moon revolves around the earth. During the Revolution, whenever these three heavenly bodies come in a straight line an eclipse occurs. There are two types of eclipse - lunar eclipse and solar eclipse.

How does a lunar eclipse occur?

Lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes in between the Sun and the Moon. In this position the shadow of the Earth covers the Moon and the moon is not visible to us. Lunar eclipse can only occur during a full moon.

How does a solar eclipse occur?

Solar eclipse occurs when the Moon comes in between the Sun and the Earth. In that position the moon creates a shadow on the earth. The sun is not visible to the people living in the shadow region. Solar eclipse can only occur during a New Moon.
